They’re Not Telling the Truth about the Afghan War
The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, John Sopko, told the House Foreign Affairs Committee this January that the 18-year war effort is plagued by “mendacity” and “hubris.” Sopko was called to testify this January before the committee to explain revelations first reported by the Washington Post that U.S. officials routinely misled the public about progress during the 18-year war. “The whole incentive is to show success and to ignore failure,” said Sopko. “And when there’s too much failure, classify it.”
