Former Cheney Adviser George Beebe Will Help Craft a Better American Approach to the World

With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entering a dangerous new phase, the U.S.-China rivalry intensifying, and the world struggling with the destabilizing effects of climate change and Covid-19, it is all the more important that the United States adopt a realistic grand strategy that prioritizes the needs and security of average Americans.

In his new role as Grand Strategy Director at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, George Beebe will be instrumental in crafting such a vision. He will help deliver ground-breaking research and analysis that moves the United States away from the outmoded approach of global military dominance and toward a strategy of realism and restraint that reduces America’s reliance on military force and reconnects Washington’s foreign policy ambitions with the priorities of the American people.

Beebe, formerly chief of CIA Russia analysis and Special Adviser to Vice President Cheney on Russia, spent more than two decades in government as an intelligence analyst, diplomat, and policy advisor. His book, The Russia Trap: How Our Shadow War with Russia Could Spiral into Nuclear Catastrophe (2019), warned how the United States and Russia could stumble into a dangerous military confrontation much like the situation we face over Ukraine today.
