Washington DC — Seventy-nine percent of Americans who voted for President Trump in 2024 would support him declaring victory in Iran and quickly ending this war, according to a new poll.
The poll, commissioned by the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and The American Conservative magazine, suggests the “MAGA coalition” would be happy to see a swift end to this war, while hawkish voices in Washington are loudly pushing Trump to escalate the war and send US troops into Iran to pursue total victory.
“As the White House seemingly searches for an off ramp from this widening conflict, neoconservatives are pressuring President Trump to double down on this war. But this poll shows that Trump’s base favors a face-saving declaration of victory by Washington that could enable a ceasefire and prevent further economic shocks,” said Quincy Institute Executive Vice President Trita Parsi.
The survey also revealed significant concerns among Trump voters about the expanding war effort and its economic ramifications back home — at odds with President Trump’s contention that “MAGA loves what I’m doing, every aspect of it.” As Trump considers using US forces to seize Kharg Island, a majority of Trump voters (58%) say they would oppose sending US troops into Iran.
And while Trump says he doesn’t have “any concern” about increased gas prices, his voters do — (55%) of people who voted for Trump in 2024 said that they were “worried” about rising gas prices as a result of the war.
While fewer than half of Trump voters surveyed said they strongly supported the U.S. decision to go to war with Iran (40%), 23% of Trump voters were somewhat or strongly opposed to it. And the emerging division among Trump voters over Iran is evident in the poll’s age crosstabs: while Trump voters overall support the Iran war by a +53 point margin, support is much more muted among young MAGA voters that are credited with helping deliver Trump the White House in 2024. Trump voters aged 18-29 support the war by a much narrower margin (+8), while Trump voters aged 30-49 support the war by +26 points.
This Quincy Institute/TAC poll was conducted March 12-14, 2026, by Ipsos using the probability-based KnowledgePanel®. This poll is based on a nationally representative probability sample of 804 Americans who reported voting for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. The study was conducted in English. The data were weighted to adjust for gender by age, race and ethnicity, census region, metropolitan status, education, household income, and political party identification. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.55 percentage points at the 95% confidence level, for results based on the entire sample of 2024 Trump voters.
“While Trump voters remain loyal to Trump, by and large, it is clear that there is a preference for ending the war sooner rather than later and that it would be better for Trump to end the war while he still has the support of his base,” Parsi said.
