Mark Cunningham is the director of development at the Quincy Institute. Previously Mark worked at the Truman Center for National Policy/Truman National Security Project as Development Director and served for almost three years as TechSoup’s Washington DC based Senior Director for Development and Government Affairs. Mark helped spearhead the German Marshall Fund’s democracy and civil society development programming across Europe and Europe’s periphery. During his 11 years with the German Marshall Fund of the United States, he created and managed several funds supporting democratic transition and civil society development in the Western Balkans, the wider Black Sea, Belarus and the Middle East/North Africa region. Mark has testified before the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament and has written extensively on critical issues, including press freedoms, supporting emerging democracies in Ukraine and Georgia, and human rights issues.
Mark is proficient in Romanian and Hungarian. He has an MA in Gender and Culture from the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary and a BA in Political Science and Philosophy from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA.
