Bodyguard of Lies: An In-Person Conversation on Accountability and the War in Afghanistan with Filmmakers and General David D. McKiernan (Ret.)
Join the Quincy Institute’s Veterans in Foreign Policy Initiative for a private screening of Bodyguard of Lies, the recently released documentary directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Dan Krauss and based on the groundbreaking reporting of Washington Post journalist Craig Whitlock. The film features never-before-seen interviews revealing the cover-up surrounding the failures of the U.S. war in Afghanistan.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with director Dan Krauss and producer Brad Hebert, featuring General David D. McKiernan (Ret.), who served as Commander of both the International Security Assistance Force and United States Forces-Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009.
The event will take place on Wednesday, November 19th from 5:30-8:30 PM ET at the Hill Center D.C. Lincoln Hall, 921 Pennsylvania Ave SE. The screening of the film will begin at 5:30 PM ET, with the panel to follow at 7:15 ET. Feel free to just attend the panel if you have already seen the film. Drinks will be served during the event.

General David D. McKiernan (Ret.)
David D. McKiernan is a retired United States Army four-star general who served in Afghanistan as Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). He served concurrently as Commander, United States Forces – Afghanistan (USFOR-A) from 6 October 2008 to 15 June 2009. Prior to Afghanistan, McKiernan was Commanding General, United States Army, Europe and Seventh United States Army from 14 December 2005 to 2 May 2008. Before promotion to four-star rank, he served as Commanding General, Third United States Army and Coalition Forces Land Component Command from 2002 to 2004, where he commanded all allied ground forces during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Dan Krauss
Dan Krauss is an American film director and cinematographer. Krauss is best known for his two documentary films The Death of Kevin Carter (2005), and Extremis (2016), which were each nominated for an Academy Award in the the Best Documentary (Short Subject) category. In 2014, Krauss directed the feature documentary, The Kill Team, winner of the Independent Spirit Awards' Truer than Fiction Award and Grand Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival. Krauss graduated with a M.J. from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
Brad Hebert
Brad Hebert is an executive producer, producing documentary series and specials for ABC, A&E, Amazon, ESPN, Netflix, TLC, The History Channel, National Geographic, and Viceland, among others. He is a Peabody Award recipient and serves as a judge for the Emmy Awards. Brad holds an M.A. in Television and Film from Syracuse University.
Adam Weinstein
Adam Weinstein is deputy director of the Middle East program at the Quincy Institute, whose current research focuses on security and rule of law in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq. He is also a non-resident fellow at Tadblab, a think tank and advisory firm based in Islamabad, and regularly travels throughout Pakistan. Adam’s analysis has been featured in the Washington Post, Guardian, Foreign Policy, War on the Rocks, Lawfare, and The National Interest. He served as a US Marine and deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 as part of a detachment to the 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company where he served in Uruzgan Province in support of Australia’s 2nd Commando Regiment.
