In Search of Monsters — Grain War
Beyond its immense bloodshed and destruction, Russia’s war in Ukraine has broad sweeping consequences across the world. This episode of In Search of Monster chronicles one such aspect: agricultural commodities.
As breadbasket countries that normally supply a significant amount of grain for much of the developing world, Russia and Ukraine’s war has driven up global commodity prices and disrupted supply chains/commodity flows. University of Georgia Historian Scott Nelson, an expert in food commodities, frames the war through such a lens, focusing on the fundamental role of grain in explaining its development.
